Hasentree Neighborhood Guide
Hasentree, Wake Forest, NC: The Honest Neighborhood Guide
The short answer
Hasentree is Wake Forest's luxury gated golf community: roughly 800 acres of rolling, wooded land on the Wake Forest and North Raleigh line, built around an 18-hole Tom Fazio golf course and a private club (The Hasentree Club, run by Invited Clubs). Homes are large custom estates and lower-maintenance golf villas, and the median list price is about $1.23 million (Source: Realtor.com, October 2026). The honest tradeoffs: club membership is mandatory on top of the HOA, at minimum a social membership, golf memberships cost far more, and the neighborhood sits outside Wake Forest town limits, so it feels more like a private resort enclave than a small-town neighborhood. If you want gated privacy, a serious golf course, and a country club social life, Hasentree has no real peer in Wake Forest. If you want low carrying costs, walkable small-town charm, or a quick pop into downtown, look elsewhere.
Where it is
Hasentree sits on the west side of Wake Forest off NC-98 (Durham Road), with its gated main entrance on Hasentree Club Drive. Every address carries a Wake Forest 27587 mailing address in Wake County, but the community sits right against the North Raleigh line near the Wakefield area, and it lies outside Wake Forest town limits. Redfin actually files Hasentree as a Raleigh neighborhood, and the club describes its own setting as the rolling hills of North Raleigh, which tells you how line-straddling this location is. Practically: historic downtown Wake Forest is about 15 to 20 minutes, downtown Raleigh is roughly 30 minutes via US-1, RTP is roughly 25 to 30 minutes via I-540, and RDU Airport is about 30 minutes (Sources: Linda Craft Team Hasentree guide; Tim M. Clarke Team Hasentree guide; Relocating to Raleigh). WakeMed North Hospital is about 15 minutes away (Source: Tim M. Clarke Team). The flip side of the privacy: the nearest grocery store or restaurant is roughly a 10-minute drive (Source: Relocating to Raleigh).
What the homes are like
This is estate territory. Single-family homes run from about 3,000 to over 10,000 square feet, mostly custom-built in traditional, transitional, Tudor, and French Provincial styles, on lots from about a third of an acre to over 3 acres (Source: Tim M. Clarke Team Hasentree guide). Builders have included Toll Brothers, Mungo Homes, Ashton Woods (a newer section was still under construction recently), and a long list of local custom builders, so no two streets look alike. Golf course and lake-view lots command the premium. Toll Brothers also built the Golf Villas, one-story, lower-maintenance homes of roughly 2,000 to 4,000 square feet that draw buyers looking for one-story, lower-maintenance living (Source: Relocating to Raleigh).
The resale numbers, with sources, because Hasentree trades on a thin number of sales and the figures move around: the median list price is about $1,225,000 with a median of 64 days on market and about $298 per square foot, across roughly 20 active listings (Source: Realtor.com, October 2026). Redfin's most recent published neighborhood figure puts the median sale price at $1,150,000 (Source: Redfin, October 2025 data, the latest it publishes for the neighborhood). Realtor.com does not publish a Hasentree-specific sale-to-list ratio; town-wide, Wake Forest homes sell for about 99% of list (Source: Realtor.com, October 2026), but individual Hasentree results vary a lot by section and condition, so price any specific home off its closest comparables, not the medians.
The schools
Most Hasentree addresses are assigned to North Forest Pines Elementary (6/10), Wakefield Middle (8/10), and Wakefield High (8/10) (GreatSchools ratings as shown on Zillow and Homes.com, October 2026). The schools themselves sit a few miles south in the Wakefield area of Raleigh; published ratings for each school are listed in the numbers note at the end of this guide.
One caution: assignment is not uniform across the community. MLS listings for the Golf Villa sections show a different path, North Ridge Elementary (7/10), Wake Forest Middle, and Wake Forest High (7/10) (GreatSchools ratings as shown on Homes.com, October 2026; assignments per Triangle MLS listing data). Verify the assignment for any specific address with Wake County before you buy.
Private and charter options buyers in Hasentree commonly consider include Thales Academy and St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Wake Forest, Wake Forest Charter Academy, Endeavor Charter School (7/10, GreatSchools via Homes.com), and North Raleigh Christian Academy in North Raleigh (Sources: Tim M. Clarke Team Hasentree guide; Homes.com school data).
Amenities and the HOA: the honest breakdown
The centerpiece is The Hasentree Club: a Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole course (7,074 yards, par 71, opened 2007; Sources: Linda Craft Team; Tim M. Clarke Team), a clubhouse with dining overlooking the course, a resort-style aquatic center with a zero-entry pool, lap pool, and children's splash area, six lighted tennis courts including Har-Tru clay, a fitness center, a family activity center, trails, and the 75-acre Lake Hasentree for fishing and kayaking (Sources: Invited Clubs; Tim M. Clarke Team; Raleigh Realty). At build-out the community is planned for around 600 homes (Source: Tim M. Clarke Team).
Here is the part buyers must understand before they fall in love with a house: there are two separate bills, and one of them is not optional.
The HOA: base dues are $350 per quarter, covering streets, signs, common areas, and the gated security (Source: Hasentree HOA fee sheet in 2026 Triangle MLS listing disclosures). Golf Villa owners pay an additional villa HOA of about $525 per quarter, which includes yard maintenance (same source). Dues have stepped up over time; older listings show $285 per quarter for the base HOA.
The club: membership in The Hasentree Club is mandatory for residents, separate from the HOA. The required entry point is a social membership: a $3,000 one-time initiation fee plus $230 per month for residents (Sources: Hasentree fee sheets in 2026 listing disclosures; The Hasentree Club membership categories sheet). Social membership covers tennis, fitness, swim, dining, and social amenities, not golf. Golf is an upgrade, and it is priced like a private club: the club's membership categories sheet lists Full Golf at a $40,000 initiation fee and $935 per month, Limited Golf at $25,000 and $655 per month, and Intermediate Golf at $17,500 and $505 per month (Source: The Hasentree Club membership categories sheet). Club pricing changes; a 2025 club pricing sheet showed lower figures (Full Golf at $30,000 and $850 per month), so confirm current pricing with the club's membership office before you write an offer, and get the full fee picture, HOA plus club plus initiation, in writing during due diligence.
Who it's perfect for
- Golfers who want a top-tier private course as their backyard and will play enough to justify the dues
- Buyers who want gated privacy, security patrols, and large wooded lots
- Social club people: dining, tennis, fitness, and an active club calendar are the lifestyle here
- Lock-and-leave and downsizing buyers who fit the Golf Villas, with yard maintenance handled by the villa HOA
- Raleigh and RTP commuters who want the shortest drive of any Wake Forest luxury community
Who should think twice
- Anyone fee-sensitive: between HOA dues, mandatory club dues, and the initiation fee, carrying costs run hundreds of dollars a month before golf
- Non-golfers who will not use the club: you are paying for a social membership whether you use it or not
- Buyers who want walkable small-town life: downtown Wake Forest is 15 to 20 minutes away and nothing is walkable from inside the gates
- Families buying primarily for a specific school assignment: assignments vary by section and the assigned schools are good, not elite
- Anyone who dislikes gates, guards, and architectural review boards: this is a controlled community by design
The bottom line
Hasentree is the Triangle's private-club answer in a Wake Forest zip code: a Tom Fazio golf course, gated privacy, and a full amenity set, at a median list price around $1.23 million. It is also the neighborhood where the fine print matters most in all of Wake Forest: a mandatory club membership layered on top of HOA dues, initiation fees that change by membership tier and year, and school assignments that differ by section. Price the house and the membership together, and Hasentree can be worth every dollar. Price the house alone and the first club bill is a nasty surprise.

Numbers: Median list price about $1,225,000, median days on market 64, about $298 per square foot, about 20 active listings (Realtor.com, October 2026). Median sale price $1,150,000 (Redfin; the most recent figure Redfin publishes for Hasentree is October 2025 data, up 31.6% year over year). No Hasentree-specific sale-to-list ratio is published; Wake Forest town-wide sale-to-list is about 99% (Realtor.com, October 2026). Home sizes about 3,000 to over 10,000 square feet and lots about 1/3 acre to 3+ acres, community about 800 acres and about 600 homes planned (Tim M. Clarke Team Hasentree guide). Golf Villas roughly 2,000 to 4,000 square feet (Relocating to Raleigh). Drive times: downtown Wake Forest about 15 to 20 minutes (Linda Craft Team); downtown Raleigh roughly 30 minutes, RTP roughly 25 to 30 minutes, RDU about 30 minutes (Tim M. Clarke Team; Relocating to Raleigh; Linda Craft Team gives a wider 30 to 40 minutes for downtown Raleigh and 35 to 45 for RDU, so treat these as normal-traffic ranges). Schools: North Forest Pines Elementary 6/10, Wakefield Middle 8/10, Wakefield High 8/10, North Ridge Elementary 7/10, Wake Forest High 7/10, Endeavor Charter 7/10 (GreatSchools ratings as shown on Zillow and Homes.com, October 2026). A Wake Forest Middle GreatSchools rating could not be verified from a consistent source, so none is stated. School assignments per Triangle MLS listing data via Movoto and Zillow; verify any specific address with Wake County Public Schools. HOA and club figures from Hasentree fee sheets included in 2026 Triangle MLS listing disclosures (base HOA $350/quarter; Golf Villa HOA about $525/quarter; mandatory club initiation $3,000 one-time; resident social dues $230/month) and The Hasentree Club membership categories sheet (Full Golf $40,000 initiation and $935/month; Limited Golf $25,000 and $655/month; Intermediate Golf $17,500 and $505/month; non-resident social dues $260/month). A 2025 club pricing sheet showed lower golf figures (Full Golf $30,000 initiation, $850/month), so club pricing is time-sensitive; confirm with the club. One course detail conflicts across sources: Linda Craft Team lists the course at par 71 and 7,074 yards; the Tim M. Clarke Team guide says par 72. Verify dues, membership requirements, and school assignment for any specific address before making an offer.
